O dr. Bernard Quatermass quase sofre um acidente de carro quando um casal atravessa seu caminho e saem fora da via.
Ao saber do que se tratava, vê que o homem está queimado no rosto por um meteoro que caiu em Willingdon Flats.
Ao retornar à base do projeto lunar no qual vem se dedicando recebe informação de que vários desses meteoritos estavam caindo nessas imediações de forma ordenada e estranha.
Ao checar o local,Quatermass acha uma exata réplica de seu projeto lunar construido numa área cercada de guardas.
Seu assistente sofre queimadura de um dos meteoritos e Quatermass é expulso violentamente do lugar.
Investigando mais a fundo descobre se tratar na verdade, de uma invasão alienígena que planeja dominar a mente humana e desenvolver sua espécie, sem interferência do governo britânico, infiltrando suas vítimas infectadas em postos estratégicos do poder.
