The Kinks foi uma banda de rock britânica formada em Muswell Hill, Londres, pelos irmãos Ray e Dave Davies no ano de 1964.
Categorizados nos Estados Unidos como uma banda da Invasão Britânica, os Kinks são reconhecidos como um dos mais importantes e influentes grupos de rock da sua geração.
A sua música surgiu a partir de influências de vários estilos musicais, incluindo rhythm and blues, music hall britânica, folk e country.
Ray Davies (vocais, guitarra rítmica) e Dave Davies (guitarra base, vocais) permaneceram como os únicos elementos originais durante os 32 anos de carreira do grupo.
Os outros dois membros fundadores, Peter Quaife (baixo, vocais) e Mick Avory (bateria, percussão) foram substituídos respectivamente por John Dalton em 1969 e Bob Henrit em 1984.
Dalton por sua vez foi substituído por Jim Rodford em 1978. O teclista Nicky Hopkins acompanhou a banda durante as suas sessões de gravação em meados da década de 60.
Posteriormente vários teclistas, incluindo John Gosling e Ian Gibbons, tornaram-se elementos oficiais.
