It has now been confirmed that Kodi 17.3 will soon be available to download in order to fix 'packaging issue' in the v17.2 release. Here are the details.

Kodi, the hugely popular media playback software has only recently received a new update, bringing it up to version 17.2. The update itself is largely a maintenance release, bringing bug fixes and while that may not immediately seem all that exciting on the face of things, if you suffer from one of the bugs that this release addresses then you are going to be very happy indeed.


With bug fixes included, this release also importantly fills a security hole relating to subtitle zip files, so even if you are not in need of the usual bug fixes, you really should update anyway – security fixes are not things to be skipped, no matter what software we are talking about.

This particular security flaw is one that has received quite a bit of attention recently, with attackers able to harm machines on which Kodi and other media players were installed via the vector of subtitles. Kodi 17.2 fixes that.

However, it is not all good news. An update posted to the Kodi website has confirmed that there are indeed problems with this version 17.2 release too. Thankfully they have been identified and a new version of Kodi is already in the works in order to put things right.

Due to packaging issue after release some add-ons like PVR, visualisation and Inputstream are missing. Also on Ubuntu 14.04 an issue came to light. We will release v17.3 as soon as we can to solve this problem.

Keep an eye out for Kodi 17.3 release folks, and while you are at it, we still suggest updating to 17.2 in the meantime if you haven't already because of the aforementioned subtitles security flaw which could allow any hacker to take over your machine!
